The “Guidelines for Funding Measures Requiring Urgent Action” were adopted by the City Council in December 2023.
The Johanniterhaus am See and Awira in Fredenberg were the first organizations to receive funding from this program in 2024. The Johanniterhaus purchased a rickshaw. Awira received an awning for its patio.
Additional projects followed from Müze, NOW Neighborhood Center (Caritas Association), Diakonie Neighborhood Center, CaJuLe, Caritas Association, DRK Salzgitter, Diakonie “Treffpunkt To Go,” WoWi SZ-Lebenstedt, the Catholic Family Education Center, and the Fredenberg Forum.
The applicants’ ideas are diverse: playground equipment, a children’s camp, neighborhood festivals, equipment for youth centers, brochures, accessories for a cargo bike, patio furniture, and much more.
“With the guidelines for funding measures that require urgent action, we can support projects that—and this is particularly important to me—benefit everyone in the neighborhood,” emphasizes Mayor Frank Klingebiel, calling on citizens, institutions, and neighborhood centers to submit applications. “After all, the people on the ground know best what is needed.”
Funding may be granted in particular for:
- Measures involving capital investments, such as the purchase and installation of trash cans, bike racks, playground equipment, or signage.
- Measures that are not capital investments but rather social integration initiatives or intercultural initiatives, such as recreational activities, creative workshops, neighborhood festivals, etc.
The application process is simple. If you have any questions, please contact the Department of Urban Redevelopment and Social City, Martina Hänsch (martina.haenschstadt.salzgitterde) or by phone at 05341/839-3386.
