Vehicles and trains whose dimensions, axle loads, or total weights actually exceed the limits generally permitted by law require a special permit to travel on public roads.

Requirements

A permit or exemption may only be granted if certain requirements are met, e.g.:

• Transportation of an indivisible load,
• Transport by rail or water is not possible,
• a suitable route is available.

Procedure

A permit or exemption is granted upon written application. Applications may be submitted by fax, email, or online via the nationwide procedure management system for large-scale and heavy-haul transports (VEMAGS).
