Anyone who intends to import, export, store, distribute, or work with pathogens in Germany for the first time must notify the competent authority at least 30 days before commencing such activities. If the activity involving pathogens has already been reported as part of another procedure governed by federal law, reference may be made to the documents submitted in that context.

All activities involving pathogens must be reported to the competent authority, regardless of whether they are exempt from licensing or subject to licensing.

The following must be reported to the competent authority:

• the nature and scope of the intended activity
• the nature of the premises and facilities, as well as
• the waste disposal measures

The termination or resumption of the activity must also be reported.
