In the meantime, companies, works councils, trade unions and local authorities have joined the initiative, including the city of Salzgitter.
A sign with the inscription "Respect! No place for racism" on the union building, the sports club building, the company façade or the town hall is intended to make it clear that all members or employees are against xenophobia.
The city of Salzgitter has set itself the goal of gradually installing the plaque on all public buildings and schools. The city administration is receiving support from the business community.
However, putting up the sign is just the beginning. Since the kick-off event, a variety of projects have emerged in Salzgitter, including so-called "lighthouse projects", such as the annual International Cultural Festival, at which citizens from a wide range of nations celebrate together.
The initiative is supported by many sponsors and supporters as well as numerous celebrities and volunteers from the worlds of sport and entertainment.
Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel has assumed the patronage. "We are a tolerant and intercultural city. It is home to people from many countries around the world," emphasized Klingebiel at the launch event in the Gewerkschaftshaus in Lebenstedt. For him, Salzgitter is characterized by its strong intercultural integration power. "This should and must remain so. There is no place for xenophobic and racist attitudes in our city," he emphasized. Over 100,000 people from 108 nations have found a home in Salzgitter. That is why the initiative "Respect! No place for racism!" initiative should be a guiding principle for the city.
The nationwide initiative gave actors in Salzgitter, such as the city administration, many companies and the IG Metall trade union, the impetus to plan their own projects. In the meantime, a cooperation network has emerged that accompanies various activities on the topic of respect and supports new project partners in the implementation of their own measures. The initiative has found its place in all areas of daily life and has developed a model character. New cooperation partners from sport, business and other areas are constantly joining in.
Anyone who wants to get involved can also take part with one-off activities and there is no time limit. The project is designed in such a way that the cooperation partners are always bringing in new activities and measures.
