Salzgitter

Pilot project "Apprentices promote their professions"

Premiere for a pilot project: Under the motto "Apprentices promote their professions", a special event took place at the Dr. Klaus Schmidt Hauptschule in Salzgitter-Bad, to which the city of Salzgitter and Wirtschafts- und Wirtschafts- und Innovationsförderung Salzgitter GmbH (WIS) had invited.

Apprentices from Seyfert GmbH, head teacher Nadja Koszudowski and social education worker Nadja Röttger are delighted with the successful event at their school.

What can small and medium-sized companies in particular do to combat the shortage of skilled workers? The practical answer for recruiting young talent: trainees from companies presented their (well-known and less well-known) professions to pupils at Dr. Klaus Schmidt Hauptschule.

The trainees and trainers from Paul Reinkober GmbH, Hirsch Isoliertechnik, Nordmeyer SMAG Mining & Drilling Technologies GmbH, AWO-Wohn- und Pflegeheim Am Eikel, Seyfert GmbH and Städtische Regiebetrieb (SRB) took part. The professions were selected so that students with a secondary school leaving certificate could apply.

In several small groups, the pupils were able to go from station to station and ask the trainees from the respective companies questions about the tasks, processes, duration of training and salary. In addition, the trainees were also able to talk to the young people of tomorrow about personal matters such as their motivation for the apprenticeship and the decision-making processes.

This practical day went down well with the pupils. Getting to know young people who are learning these professions and talking about them was vivid and informative. "I found the insight into different professions very good and I'm thrilled," said Larissa.

Principal Nadja Koszudowski was also delighted with the successful event:

"I am grateful for the 'mini fair' that we developed together in a short space of time and for the support from the city of Salzgitter and WIS. I was delighted that local and smaller companies in particular accepted our invitation and put their heart and soul into presenting their trades. Talking to 'real trainees' was a lot of fun for our pupils."

"We would definitely like to see a continuation of this career guidance format next year. The short distances, personal contact and support from the school, which is not always available at home, enables our pupils to develop career prospects and choose their own path."

Following the successful pilot, the city of Salzgitter is planning to repeat the event next year together with Wirtschafts- und Innovationsförderung Salzgitter GmbH (WIS).
