Enrichment for the municipal art collections

The painting "In the Steelworks" by the artist Edward B. Gordon enriches the Municipal Art Collections. The work can be seen in the exhibition "Lohn und Brot", which opens on Sunday, March 19, at 11 am. Interested parties are invited.

The successful artist Edward B. Gordon has already exhibited his works at Salon Salder in 2017. Now he is making his portrait "Im Stahlwerk", which he completed last year, available to the municipal art collections. The purchase of the painting was financed by the Dr. Juch Kulturstiftung, which has set itself the goal of promoting art and culture in Salzgitter.

Edward B. Gordon was delighted at the handover: "It's great that my work of art about the world of work in the steelworks can now be seen in the steel city of Salzgitter. With the interplay of color, light, shadow and form, I want to give viewers the opportunity to get to know the supposedly familiar world through my eyes."

Rainer Dworog, Chairman of the Dr. Juch Cultural Foundation, emphasizes: "The work handed over to the art collections today is a real enrichment for the art collection. Our foundation promotes culture and the most important thing about culture is that it is made accessible to people. That's why we as a foundation were very happy to cover the costs of the purchase."

Head of Cultural Affairs Jan Erik Bohling is also delighted with this support: "I would like to thank Edward B. Gordon and the Dr. Juch Kulturstiftung for giving us the opportunity to add this portrait, which is so appropriate for Salzgitter, to our collection. Many visitors to our museum will soon be able to see it and immerse themselves in Gordon's world."

In future, the work will be part of the "World of Work" collection and can be seen in changing thematic exhibitions in the "Memory of Work" series.

About the work "Im Stahlwerk":

"Im Stahlwerk" was begun in 2016 and completed in 2022. It is a painting that shows a person in a "three-quarter portrait". The person is turned away from the viewer, looking into the room. The surrounding space is blurred and cool. The figure itself is clearly and sharply outlined. She is wearing a heavy silver coat that glows orange. Just like the sparks. The viewer's gaze is focused on the person and the sparks. The working person is highly concentrated on his work, he is completely absorbed in his activity, which conveys danger. The figure is not personalized - there are no hands, no face. This has nothing to do with the fact that the artist did not want to depict the steelworker, but that the working environment, the position at the blast furnace, dictates this.

About the artist:

Edward B. Gordon was born in Hanover. He lives and works in Berlin and London and is a successful artist. He took part in the Salon Salder 2017. Edward B. Gordon is a precise observer of everyday urban life. His metier is the many faces of the big city. He depicts the dark corners where they rush past building fences without a glance and the glittering nightlife with its audience. He also depicts lonely people and those who do not allow themselves to be swept along by the general hustle and bustle.
