The participants spent five days at the Biological Station of NABU (Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union) Salzgitter to discover the superpowers of local plants and herbs and prepare a delicious menu over the campfire every day.
Every day, the participants planned and prepared a 3-course meal using mainly regional and seasonal products, using wild plants in a variety of ways. Recipes (e.g. dandelion pesto, wild herb salad or fire bread with herbs) and plant profiles were compiled into individual cookbooks during the week.
Other creative techniques such as forging their own bread knife with a mobile forge, weaving a wicker basket, designing a ceramic cup and making a herb dryer were also on the program and introduced them to original craft methods.
At the end of the joint project week, a friends and family afternoon was designed by the participants. A self-created wilderness buffet was an invitation to taste, an exhibition of the creative works offered an impression of the thematic content of the project and a final campfire with stick bread, marshmallows and s'mores (campfire snack) sent all the children and young people off happily into the remaining vacation time.
