Once again this year, the exhibitors were small and medium-sized companies that were not always well-known, especially among young people, and were therefore out of the young people's focus. Interesting for the pupils - the training paths presented are all accessible with the possible qualifications at the Dr. Klaus Schmidt Hauptschule.
The concept of the school fair was a complete success again this year. It was intended to offer an opportunity to counteract the serious shortage of skilled workers on the business side and provide guidance to young people who are faced with an almost unmanageable number of options for the future.
In order to master these challenges, trainees and those who have just completed their training at the exhibiting companies promoted their own professions at the trade fair. This went down particularly well with the more than 100 young people. This allowed discussions to be held at eye level without too much distance. The division into small groups of two to five young people was also helpful for the individual approach and advice.
The companies are also enthusiastic about this concept - the number of registered exhibitors has doubled from 2023 to 2024. This year, the companies Hirsch Isoliertechnik, Imperial Steel Logistics GmbH Salzgitter, Nordmeyer SMAG Mining & Drilling Technologies GmbH, ambet e.V. as well as Haus Amalia, Bäder, Sport und Freizeit Salzgitter GmbH, the dental practice Dr. Christoph Schubert and, among others, Städtischer Regiebetrieb (SRB) took part.
In addition to the companies, BBS Fredenberg was also represented as a vocational school. Pupils were able to find out about the existing and new training courses in nursing and the new one-year vocational school for gastronomy over a fresh fruit cocktail.
The "Partnerships for Apprenticeships" association offered the young people additional advice on training, Bundesfreiwilligendienst and support services.
Principal Nadja Koszudowski was delighted with the successful event: "I am grateful for the 'mini fair' that we developed together in a short space of time and for the support from the city of Salzgitter and Wirtschafts- und Innovationsförderung Salzgitter GmbH (WIS). I was delighted that local and smaller companies in particular accepted our invitation and put their heart and soul into presenting their trades. Our students really enjoyed talking to 'real trainees'. We would definitely like to see a continuation of this career guidance format next year. The short distances and personal contact enable our pupils to develop career prospects."
