Every day, the Administration Department of the Civil Engineering and Traffic Division receives requests to break up roads. Mainly utility companies use the road area to lay their supply and disposal lines.

Each excavation represents a permanent disturbance of the layer density, the layer sequence and the layer bond of the road pavement. An excavated traffic area pavement must be restored in such a way that it is technically equivalent to the original condition.

The City of Salzgitter, as the owner of the roads, therefore ensures that construction is carried out correctly in accordance with the rules of technology. Particular attention is paid to the interfaces between the old road and the excavation.

The technical basis for carrying out a road excavation is the Additional Technical Contract Conditions and Guidelines for Excavations in Traffic Areas, which define the type of restoration, the warranty period and the quality.

The application for approval of a road demolition must be submitted at least 14 days before the start of the planned work. The applicant is the person initiating the demolition work. After completion of the construction work, completion must be reported.
