Watercourse supervision includes the implementation and monitoring of necessary measures

• to improve the situation of water bodies as part of the ecosystem,
• to reduce the input of substances into water bodies,
• to eliminate water pollution and
• to prevent possible future pollution.

The powers of action of the responsible body are standardized in §§ 100 and 101 of the Water Resources Act (WHG) and in § 128 of the Lower Saxony Water Act (NWG).
