The Senior Citizens' Office sees itself as a central and independent advice center for older citizens and their relatives on issues relating to old age. Advice and questions about ageing

The senior citizens' office offers senior citizens, relatives and other interested parties advice and discussions on all aspects of ageing, also outside the town hall.

The following topics are available: preparation for the post-professional phase, pension advice, coping with everyday life, care provision, entitlement to care services, care aids, outpatient and inpatient care options.

The advice service takes place on the following days:

The Seniorenbeirat of the City of Salzgitter was first formed in 1978. The committee consists of 15 members and 15 substitute members.

The local care conference advises on issues relating to care provision for the population, the necessary care provision structure and the coordination of service offerings.

Senior-friendly service

Since 2009, the Seniorenbeirat and Seniorenbüro of the city of Salzgitter have been offering retailers, pharmacists and housing developers in Salzgitter the opportunity to have their business or company awarded the "Senior-friendly service" certificate. In a working group, the members of the Seniorenbeirat have set out the criteria that are checked for certification in a catalog. Each criterion is weighted according to its importance for senior citizens. If a minimum number of points is achieved, a certificate is issued.

In the retail sector, for example, the following groups are tested

Other senior-friendly measures

However, many criteria are also of great importance for other people with limited mobility, such as sick people or mothers with baby carriages, so a bright yellow certificate on the store door also sends out a positive signal to these people.

The certificate is valid for 2 years and includes a certificate, a certification notice and an adhesive logo and is free of charge.
