Almost 60 years ago, the idea of developing a recreational area with a lake near the town center of Salzgitter-Lebenstedt became reality. A gigantic and courageous project that has increased the quality of life in the town enormously. Since its creation, Salzgittersee has been continuously developed and is now not only one of the most important recreational areas in the region, but also the water sports center of south-eastern Lower Saxony.

Based on a collection of ideas developed in recent years, the "Salzgittersee Master Plan", the city of Salzgitter intends to further develop the Salzgittersee in order to establish the Salzgitter brand as a residential, recreational and leisure destination in the region. In order to take as many ideas as possible into account, extensive public participation is planned. Concrete decisions will only be made after this participation process. This means that the lake development process is currently still completely open-ended.

The city administration is inviting all interested citizens, representatives of the political parties, the associations on the lake and all interested parties to the kick-off event on Monday, November 19, at 6 pm in the Kulturscheune (Thiestraße 22, Salzgitter-Lebenstedt).

The kick-off event will initially focus on the procedure and objectives of the participation process. It is planned to present the collection of ideas "Salzgitter Leisure & Tourism Concept - Further Development of Salzgittersee" to the participants as a basis and then to talk about planned participation opportunities. The process of the existing collection of ideas to be further developed and the planned bottom-up participation of the public is to be brought together.
