Successful drumming trip

Kranichdamm elementary school in Lebenstedt can look back on a successful project: A two-day drumming workshop was held for all fourth-grade classes under the musical direction of Otto Jansen, Kurt Klose and Sonja Lee.

A two-day drumming workshop was held for all fourth grade classes under the musical direction of Otto Jansen, Kurt Klose and Sonja Lee.

Each class had a different destination on their musical journey, such as Guinea, Senegal or Caracas. A polyphonic rhythm from each country was developed and presented to the whole school at the end of the workshop.

On the first day, the teacher and the instructors each worked with an entire class for around 80 minutes to develop all the necessary rhythmic building blocks. They danced, spoke and sang. The individual building blocks were practiced from spoken rhythms and then transferred to various instruments (congas, djembes, stand toms, shakers and others).

The next day, the individual instrument groups were distributed to individual groups of pupils in each class and put together over a basic groove. After the previously determined sequence with interludes and joint parts in various rounds and a "dress rehearsal", a performance took place in which all participating children took part. All the children and the participating teachers were enthusiastic. An eventful trip has come to an end and will be remembered for a long time to come.

The cooperation between the Salzgitter music school and Kranichdamm elementary school was financed by residual funds from the "Wir -machen - die Musik!" funding program of the state of Lower Saxony.
