On display are pictures and photos of the working and professional world of steel - the best-known product for the city of Salzgitter. The extraction of the mineral resources for its production - but also the product itself - has become an integral part of everyday life for the people who live here.
The exhibition, which has been on display for three weeks, has met with great interest. Not only people interested in art have found their way to the museum's "Kuhstall" exhibition building, but also those with a connection to Salzgitter and, above all, to Salzgitter AG and its professional fields. They are curious to see how the familiar and familiar is seen and depicted by artists.
Siegfried Langner's work entitled "The Converter" from 1995 shows a typical and current workplace in the steelworks in Salzgitter. It depicts a huge hall, the overwhelming power of the machinery and the danger posed by the bubbling, swirling "fire". In the foreground, two workers are depicted from behind, helping the viewer to appreciate the astonishing proportions. Gerd Winner's work stands for products made of steel. He photographed anonymous functional buildings from the era of industrialization, processed them and captured them in an emphatically matter-of-fact, sober visual language. The works were reproduced as screen prints, which make the structures of the steel constructions stand out particularly vividly. Edward B. Gordon's work "In the steelworks" shows a typical work situation. The same applies to the works of photographer Uwe Brodmann, who accompanied the employees of the steelworks during their work with his camera.
The artworks of the following artists are also on display:
Bernd Altenstein, Heiner Altmeppen, Gerd Arntz, Andreas Baier, Volker Blumkowski, Uwe Brodmann, Ralph Fleck, Edward B. Gordon, Helle Jetzig, Hermann Kätelhön, Wolfgang Kessler, Siegfried Langner, Jonas Nadasdy, Malte Sartorius, Bernd Schwering, Jürgen Waller, Gerd Winner
