According to Chinese teachings, Qigong exercises open up the meridians (energy channels). Blockages and congestion are released as the meridians are connected to the organs. In the 5-element theory, these organ systems are arranged in a specific order. When practising, participants learn to use their imagination, breathing and movement to deal constructively with stressful situations and regulate their feelings and emotions. The exercises have a harmonizing effect on the autonomic nervous system, strengthen the immune system and activate the vital forces.
