The food banks are thus the bridge between poverty and abundance and strive for a balance with volunteers, they are usually organized at community level.
Salzgitter Tafel e.V. was founded on July 25, 2000. The first food distribution took place on January 31, 2001. The Salzgitter food bank is located in the former PUR department store, Söhlekamp 1, at the entrance to Salzgitter-Bruchmachtersen.
The food is collected from bakeries and supermarkets on weekday mornings by employees and volunteer drivers in the food bank's own vehicles, transported to Söhlekamp and sorted there. Those collecting the food must provide proof of need. They are then issued with a card by the Salzgitter-Tafel which entitles them to collect food once a week. The distribution times are Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 12.30 to 15.30.
Anyone who would like to support the work can become a member. The annual membership fee should be at least 30 euros. Alternatively, donations are also accepted. As a charitable and non-profit organization, Salzgitter Tafel e.V. is also entitled to issue deductible donation receipts.
